‘Iwájú’: Disney’s First African Animated Series Transports Viewers to Futuristic Lagos

Disney has announced ‘Iwájú,’ its inaugural African animated series, created in collaboration with African entertainment company Kugali. Set in a futuristic Lagos, the series promises to explore themes of inequality, innocence, and challenging the status quo.

The creators describe ‘Iwájú’ as a love letter to Lagos, blending science fiction with rich African narratives. The series aims to showcase the vibrancy of African cities and the depth of its storytelling traditions.

Kugali co-founder Ziki Nelson stated, “Our goal is to bring African stories to the forefront of global entertainment. Partnering with Disney on ‘Iwájú’ allows us to share our culture with a worldwide audience.”
